How To Create a VR Tour - Tutorial

Step 1 - Camera and Picture Sizes
Step 2 - Taking a Panoramic Photo
Step 3 - Taking or Uploading a VR Video

Step 1 – Camera and Picture Sizes

You can use any type of digital camera including a phone camera to capture your image. YouVR does not require you to take high-resolution pictures, in fact YouVR will automatically reduce and resize your picture to fit in a portrait layout of 300(h) x 400(w) pixels. Although YouVR automatically reduces the size of your still picture(s) to the recommended size of 300(h) x 400(w) we recommend that you reduce your still pictures to the minimum 300(h) x 400(w) pixels - as the larger the picture, the longer it will take you to upload your picture(s). Pictures must not be more than 2mg’s - as the application will not accept files bigger than 2 MG's.

Step 2 - Taking a Panoramic Photo

To take a panoramic photo you should decide whether you think the subject matter is best served with a 180 degree panoramic photo or a 360 degree panoramic photo. There are many options that you have available to take your panoramic photograph. Most digital cameras now come with free stitching software for taking panoramic pictures and many popular mobile phones even come with automatic option to take panoramic photographs. Alternatively there are is a number of stitching software companies or special 360 degree VR cameras or 360 VR lens attachments for SLR cameras. Whatever method you decide will be the easiest or best way to photograph your 360 VR Tour. We suggest that you save the resize your Panoramic picture to 300 pixels height. The length of the picture can be any size larger than 400 pixels. If the picture is less than 300 pixels in height and/or 400 pixels wide it will not upload. If you panoramic picture is more than 300 pixels in height it will move up and down as well as left and right. If you upload a 360 degree picture please select ‘360º Image’ or if 180 degree picture please select ‘180º Image’ under the ‘Picture Action’ drop down menu. There is no maximum length for your panoramic image.

Step 3 – Taking or Uploading a VR Video

You can upload any of the four most popular video formats .wmv, .mpeg, .flv and .avi files. The YouVR platform automatically reduces the size of your video for quick streaming and instant viewing by your audience – however you should reduce the file size of your video as the larger the size the longer it will take you to upload your VR video. The maximum video file size that YouVR will allow you to upload is 4MB so ensure that your video file is smaller than 4MB. If you are uploading a video that you didn’t create ensure that you are not infringing or breaching the copyright of the owner(s) and that you have permission to use the video.
